What Color is Jesus?

Ever thought the reason why people depicted Jesus as either white or black was to simply become “comfortable” with Him? I mean did you give your life to our Savior or his skin color?

Did it make you comfortable to know Him because you could now relate to Him? You know.  By the pictures you see, the interpretations you watch through film and plays, the “message” people feed you.  It’s a depiction of how you would view Him.  Now be honest.  If you knew the real story of who Jesus is and what He looks like, would you still have the same love for Him?

Are you exempting the fact that it states in the Bible where Jesus is from and how His hair is and His skin?  Answer: He’s from Bethlehem. Spoiler alert.  That ain’t in America.

Revelation 1:14-15 "The hairs of his head were white, like white wool, like snow.  His eyes were like a flame of fire, his feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace."

It didn’t really come to my mind until my church friends and I had a conversation about it. We all agreed on WHAT IT SAYS IN THE BIBLE. A lot of people don’t want to see it that way. Then it hit me. Who did you give your life to? It all comes from the kind of church you attend, where you attend church, what the message is always about, who you pick and choose to be around, to socialize with.  It’s honestly another way to be in a “Christian”...I mean “religious” bubble.  It’s easy to conform to your ways or the ways of someone else thinking it’s the right way.  Don’t be afraid to admit it because we’ve all done it and some continue to do it... regardless of their acute awareness.

Don’t follow someone because of their social status, their looks, their gender, or their race.

If you’re trying to get closer to God, follow someone who is going to help you get there.  Find a mentor.  Find someone that has the same experience as you.  Find someone that’s relatable.

God has given you a mind and heart of understanding so when speaking or listening to someone who seems to be on the right track, can help you with making better life decisions, participating in Bible study, talking to others who are seeking God the way you are, about the importance of knowing Him and building a relationship with Him.

Don’t get caught up on what color He is.  I mean does it really matter?  Are you searching to be like Him?  Are you after His heart or are you trying to settle an “I told you” score?

You have the understanding of right and wrong.  Ask God to help you with the decision of who to follow, what to do, what not to do, who to talk to, who not to talk to, etc.  Follow someone who is going to turn your world upside down...as Pastor Tim Ross puts it.

Matthew 6:2 (summarized). Don’t be deceived by the show a person puts on for they will be exposed for their behavior.

You wouldn’t have to look a certain way, act a certain way to be noticed by God.  He sees you and He notices that you are seeking Him, that you want His attention more and more. He doesn’t care where you come from or how you talk.  He already knows that.  He’s excited as well as the angels that you are seeking direction to be just like Him and to be used by Him.

Luke 19:3 “Zacchaeus wanted desperately to see Jesus but the crowd was in his way, so he ran ahead and climbed up in a sycamore tree so he could see Jesus when he came by.”

Luke 19:5-6 “When Jesus got to the tree, he looked and said, Zacchaeus, hurry down.  Today is my day to be a guest in your home.”  Zacchaeus scrambled out of the tree, hardly believing his good luck, delighted to take Jesus home with him.”

When you have interest and an open heart to not settle for anyone or anything that can get in your way of knowing God, He takes notice and comes into your life to change you for the better.

The life you were living, the words that weren’t a part of the truth, will no longer be.  He’s come to change all of that.  He’s come to make you new and share with you all that He has for you.  Now you have access to His wondrous glory.

Prayer: Lord, allow me to see you for who you are.  Open my eyes to receive you.  I want to follow you.  I want to walk in your footsteps.  I want to walk on the path you have paved for me.  Lord, provide me with your wisdom.  I want to accept you completely.  I want to accept your people regardless of who they are.  Regardless of where they come from.  Regardless of their beliefs because you didn't die on the Cross for just my sins or the sins of people who look just like me but you died for everyone so that we can know you and have a relationship with you.  In Jesus' Name.  Amen.

Love,

Janelle
