Fear of God

We speak so much on the fear of moving forward, the fear of losing out, the fear of staying stuck but what we don’t talk about is the fear of walking into the presence of God.  Having the fear of knowing Him.  We have this fear in believing He will change us in ways we won’t like.  That the things we did before, we won’t want to do them again.

We look at God as this eternal being that can change us without our knowledge or strike us down and do away with us if we don’t act right.

God is ALL sufficient. He is ALL gracious. He didn’t create us and mold us into His perfect image to do away with us.  He loves us so much He gave us His son, Jesus, as a living sacrifice.  That was His purpose to die on the cross for a bunch of people who either believed or didn’t believe in Him.  He died on a cross for a maybe.  Maybe my children will love me as much as I love them.  Maybe they’ll obey and listen to me.  Maybe they’ll allow me to guide them into their purpose.  Maybe they’ll give me all of them as I have given them all of me, receive me, and spend eternity with me.

Fear looks like the unknown.  When you don’t know God and haven’t spent time with Him, your mind is automatically going to go to a place of uncertainty.  Maybe the example of God through someone else wasn’t a good one so you created your own image of who God is.

I will honestly say that the fear of the unknown is just that, fear.  It will eat you alive when you don’t take the time to allow God to come into your life.  You can’t expect a person to walk onto your doorstep and give you the greatest godly experience possible, you have to go out there and get it.  You have to receive it.  If you’re not one to give up on your dreams even when it feels like you’re going at it alone because you haven’t had the best example of what it looks like to succeed or go outside of your comfort zone, don’t give up on God.

If you go out there looking for God, you will find Him.  He will provide you with that great example of what it truly means to be a Christ follower.  He will help you on the path of believing Him, loving Him, receiving Him, trusting Him, and experiencing Him for yourself.

Look at your life.  What do you see?  Where were you before you got to the position you’re in now.  Don’t think about the negative things because that’s easy to spot but when you take a look at how far you’ve come from being where you used to be, it’s nobody but God.  Now look at the bad that has happened in your life.  You’ve lost some things or lost someone and at this time, it’s easy to blame God or blame someone for a loss you’ve experienced.  I want to tell you that God is with every step of the way.  God didn’t allow this to happen to you.  It was an unfortunate event.  He wants nothing but the best for you.  The question is, how are you going to use your loss as a gain? How are you going to use this as an opportunity to remember that person or move forward from the things you’ve lost?  Just because you’ve lost something doesn’t mean it can't be replenished.

Go to your Bible and read Job.  Job was very faithful to God.  God blessed him with millions.  He had everything he could ask for and then some.  All of a sudden, it was taken away.  He had nothing left but what he did have, was his friends and more importantly God.  God never left him.  This was a test.  A very big one.  God already knew how faithful Job was to Him.  He knew that Job wouldn’t stop believing in Him, wouldn’t stop praying to Him, wouldn’t stop trusting in Him, wouldn’t stop having faith in Him.

Now, I want to tell you that just because you follow God, doesn’t mean you won’t have trouble.  This is another fear.  We believe that if we follow God, there shouldn’t be anymore trouble that comes our way.  We should be protected for eternity.  Let me just stop you and bring some more truth in here.  You will have trouble even more when you follow God.  Why? There is a bullseye on your back from the enemy.  As heaven is cheering that you are now a part of the Kingdom, the devil and his army are upset that they’ve lost another person.  They are filled with anger and will try to attack you anyway they possibly can.

However, the difference between you following God and you’re not, is with God, you have protection.  You have someone fighting your battles for you.  It’s not just you in the ring.  As a matter of fact, God is in the ring for you, fighting the devil for you.  There is no reason to be fearful when you have a fearless God in your corner.

God is rooting for you to stay connected to Him.  Every day of your life is not going to be peaches and cream.  Even though Job lost everything, he still had faith in the ONE who created Him, the ONE who blessed him to have all that he once had.  Because of his faithfulness, Job was rewarded double for his trouble.  He received all he lost and more.

You’re going to have tough seasons all throughout your life but are you going to give up everytime a situation gets hard?  How do you plan on growing? How do you plan on moving forward? How do you plan on helping someone else who may be going through the same thing?  How do you plan on telling your story of where you were and where you are and it was nothing but the grace and mercy of God that brought you through.

You have nothing to fear when you have God on your side.

Here are a couple of scriptures to help you through fear:

2 Timothy 1:7 AMP For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control].

Philippians 4:6 AMP Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God.

I hope this helps you.

Love,

Janelle
