No More Wire Hangers!: The Best Ways to Organize Your Closet

Seriously though, if you still have wire hangers in your closet, why? You don’t have to spend a fortune on hangers just to have some that are stable, won’t rust and stain your clothes, and are more fashionable.

If your entire home has a cohesive look, your closet needs to as well. Yes, even down to the hangers.

Okay, so if y’all don’t know by now, I love organization. I love when everything has a place but a lot of times, when we are living in a place for a while, we tend to slack off and put things off. We love to see organization in someone else’s place but it feels overwhelming when it comes to our own.

Today, we’re going to change that. Today, you’re going to know how to have organization and learn to keep spaces that can get very messy very quickly, clean and simple.

First of all, think about your closet. How does it make you feel? Do you feel proud of it? Does it make you happy to open your closet everyday? Is it functional? These are some of the questions I ask myself every time I open my closet door. Why? Because this is another space that you occupy every single day. If you’ve renovated or redecorated your entire place, don’t you think you need to do the same thing for your closet?

Everything about your space is psychological. It sets the tone. It brings out different emotions depending on what your closet looks like. For me, my closet space is kind of cramped because going from living in a ranch style home to an apartment, I had to bring a lot of my things with me in bins. Now, if you have the extra money, go ahead and place your things in storage, or an extra bedroom...if you have it. But for me, I have to make do with the limited space I have. So to do that, I put everything that was larger, in storage containers, so I can maximize my space as much as possible.

Seasonal Closet

Create a seasonal closet. Whatever season it is at the time, only bring out the clothes and shoes you’re going to be using at that time. This will make sure your closet space and hangers aren’t taking up space that can be occupied by something else.

Speaking of hangers, make sure your hangers have a cohesive look. Yes, everything should flow, even the hangers. What theme, style, or colors are you going for in your room? It’s best for your closet to reflect that because your closet is a part of you. It’s a part of your personality and it’s something you access everyday.

Storage

If you have medium or large containers, make sure not to stack them so high. Level them out throughout the closet. Make sure to also have containers that are storing your most used items on top (if you’re stacking bins) so you can quickly and easily access additional items.

When thinking about the right storage containers, it’s better to have something you’re able to see through or on top.

Acrylic containers allow you to see what’s inside without even opening it. You can also use bins that are open at the top, like a hamper but for clean clothes.

The way to keep everything clean, simple, and organized, make sure to put whatever you’ve taken out of your closet for any reason, back where you found it. Treat the closet like you’re at a store. I don’t know about you but when I’m at the store, I rarely pick something up and not put it back where I initially picked it up. I know. You can get lazy with this because it’s a comfortable place you see every day. But think about it, when you begin cleaning your home, that’s one less thing you have to do.

Think about it, when your closet is chaotic, so is your mind. You’re thinking about multiple things at one time.

What does organizing do for you? Organization allows you to place things in particular places and know where they are later. It also helps to not overstuff your drawers or closet space. Whatever won’t fit in your drawers, place it in the closet.

For me, my daily items such as undergarments, workout clothes, sleepwear, and socks are kept in my drawer because that’s what I access everyday. It’s a part of my daily routine.

*Pro tip: When you want to maximize your space in your drawers, lay your clothing at an angle.

When you repeat something, it becomes a habit. Good or bad. So make sure to make a good habit out of this and fold your clothes and hang up your clothes because when you have a clean and organized closet, you feel better. You feel like you’re able to breathe. You feel accomplished.
